For those of you who love collecting the early Dolls, this 17” Blampoix, originally marketed and stamped by Aux Enfants Sages in the 1850s, is a treasure that will light up your cabinet. (I was thrilled to find her on my recent journey to historical Paris and imagine this is her first transatlantic crossing!) She has the early and wonderful stamp that is an indicator of her origin in the shop prior to the shop changing hands in 1858. She is clearly marked:

Aux Enfant Sages

Anc Maison Monnier

Passage Jouffrey

After the sale on March 6 of 1858, when Jules Albert Monnier, called Monnier Jeune, sold his business to Jean-Baptiste Eugene Benon and his soon-to-be bride, Louise Duvernoy, the successor’s name Benon & Cie appeared under Monnier’s name. Another feature of this incredible doll's journey is her original Apollo Knot or Giraffe-style coiffure. She is in generally magnificent condition and wears all original clothing including layers of undergarments that boast of a red hoop or crinoline skirt. Her leather slipper shoes are a delight. And her fine blue and white dress is a delicate array of ruffled layers with sheer gauzy sleeves. Her beautiful China-glazed face is enhanced by her deep sapphire eyes, darkly lined, and finely formed mouth. Her painting is detailed and feminine. Her leather body has remained sturdy and stable. This is a doll you will treasure. She has certainly traveled well through time and is anxious to share her secrets with you.
