The trunk appears to be made of a beautiful cherry wood, and is generously fitted with brass and leather buckled straps. A center medallion is engraved “Bon Bons” clarifying that the original purpose of this adorable piece was as a container for the sweetest of treats. Under the lid is a label proclaiming “Au Fidèle Berger of  Vichy”. In the 19th century and prior, sugar and chocolate were highly prized and  as valuable, if not more, than gold. It was important for the confectioners to partner with clever artisans to create timeless candy containers that would remain long after the sweets were gone as a reminder of the treasure and affection it once held.
